The green fairy drink once enjoyed by the likes of Ernest Hemingway and Pablo Picasso. The hallucinogenic, anise flavoured, opulescent spirit from France is what Van Gogh drank before cutting off part of his ear. Yeah, fairly irresponsible creative types, I know! But, its also the drink which can help you see in 3 and half dimensions!
Its Absinthe!
First distilled in France from wormwood and contains traces of thujone (which has hallucinogenic qualities), became tremendously popular amongst painters, artists and the literary icons throughout Europe in nineteenth century. Absinthe has excellent mixability and your imagination is the limit.
Now that the ban over Absinthe is abolished for our American friends, try some of these and let me know how you feel
:
1. Pour 2 parts Hapsburg Absinthe into 1 part champagne. Place a cube of sugar on a spoon over the glass and then gradually let 2 parts of chilled champagne drip over into the glass. Wait till the liquid turns opulescent before having a sip.
2. Gradually pour 2 parts of Rum into 3 parts of Pernod Absinthe. Squeeze some fresh lime, 1 and half teaspoonful of sugar and mix well till it turns cloudy.
3. Or try 1shot of La Fee with 1 shot of cognac, shake vigorously and strain into a cocktail glass for a quickie.
You can buy Absinthe online at TWE.
